What is Prostate cancer?

Prostate cancer is a common cancer in men, starting in the prostate gland, part of the male reproductive system. It forms as a malignant tumor that can grow, invade nearby tissues, and metastasize to other parts of the body. Prostate cancer is more prevalent in older men, with higher risks in Black men (including African and Caribbean ancestry) and less common among Asian men. It can also affect trans women and non-binary individuals assigned male at birth.

The prostate gland is located below the bladder and in front of the rectum. It produces fluid for semen, and the urethra, which carries urine and semen, passes through the prostate. Early symptoms of prostate cancer may include urinary changes, making early detection key for treatment and prostate health.
